A patio, sometimes called a courtyard, is an outdoor space adjoining a house. It can be of the square type, in which case it blocks the view of third parties, or a U-shaped patio with one side open.
A major advantage of the house with a patio is that much more sunlight comes into the interior than in ordinary houses. In addition, the air of the house can be changed more easily than in conventional houses. The disadvantage of a patio, however, is that the warm sunlight and cool air are easy to circulate, making the house hotter in summer and colder in winter.
When purchasing furniture for a patio, make sure that it is made of materials suitable for outside use. Textiles woven with all-weather fabrics resist water, and they allow moisture to evaporate quickly. Wood pieces should be treated with weatherproof sealants. It is also good to test the durability of furniture before buying it by running your hands along it. If the surface feels rough, the furniture will be brittle and difficult to clean.
The layout of a patio should be well thought out. For example, if there is no room for a sofa and chairs in the center of the garden, the furniture should be arranged so that the person sitting in the chair can see the door. The layout of a patio should also take into account the number of people who can comfortably sit on the furniture at one time.
